You’re split about what the OnePlus 8T should be
OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 8T will be available next month and has set a release date for the newest flagship on October 14th. Unfortunately, it is rumored that the OnePlus 8T will not be complemented by a Pro model.
This would be the first time since the 2018 OnePlus 6T that we don’t see a Pro model alongside a standard OnePlus flagship. This made us wonder what path OnePlus might take with the upcoming phone.
Could the company make the OnePlus 8T a premium device on par with Pro phones? Would the phone take the cheaper route like we’ve seen other vanilla flavors? We ask this question Android Authority Readers, and here is what they thought.
What should OnePlus do with the OnePlus 8T?
Results
We published our survey on September 7th and over 4,500 readers took part. The results show that a slim majority of readers (52.4%) would like OnePlus to make the OnePlus 8T a premium offering that is similar to the Pro models. The OnePlus 8 Pro is undoubtedly the culmination of this approach, offering wireless charging, water resistance, a 120 Hz QHD + OLED screen, and a telephoto rear camera.
Almost 48% of respondents turned the other way and said they wanted a cheaper device in line with previous Vanilla models. The standard OnePlus 8 is the latest example of this. It lacks wireless charging and a telephoto camera, while retrofitting it on a 90 Hz FHD + OLED display. However, the phone had a starting price of $ 699 compared to the OnePlus 8 Pro’s starting price of $ 899.
For what it’s worth Android Central reports that the OnePlus 8T will have a 120 Hz OLED screen but a gimped rear camera setup. In the latter case, the phone is assumed to have a 48-megapixel primary camera, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, a 5-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel portrait camera. So if you are hoping for the Pro’s 48MP ultra-wide camera or a telephoto lens, you will be disappointed.
Your comments
- To En Seow: Maybe it helps to turn Pro into a night once a year.
- Demongornot: “What do you think OnePlus should do with the OnePlus 8T?” Bring back the jack and pop-up and give it a flat display like all phones should have.
- Why is there no Pro model? Is it because nobody wants to give 1000 € for the Oneplus phone?
- Jeff T: I couldn’t care less – give me the 5nm OnePlus 9!
