Nvidia Shield TV users got a nasty surprise last week. After an Android TV UI update was sent to the streaming box, users reported seeing ads on their previously ad-free home screen.

Understandably, users were outraged and used the Play Store and other social opportunities to express their views. But we wanted to understand how Android Authority readers feel about the update.

In this survey, we asked if you were dissatisfied with ads on the Nvidia Shield TV. Here is what you told us.

Are you dissatisfied with the ads on your Nvidia Shield TV?

Results

That was a pretty heated poll. We have received over 2,100 responses on this topic and over 90% of respondents hate watching ads on the Nvidia Shield TV.

Only 9.2% of the readers surveyed stated that the new update did not “bother” them. In fact, despite the one-sided poll results, several users claim in the comments that they really like the new update. We’ll let you walk through some of the answers below.

Connected: The best Android TV boxes you can buy right now

You told us that

  • James Updike: Installing a third party launcher is easy and takes less than 2 minutes. The launchers are available from the Play Store. What’s the big deal? It’s not like Roku or Apple where you get stuck with what they give you.
  • Deadpool: People are stupid as a rock. They are recommendations. There are no McDonald’s ads passing on your face. It’s just shows and movies, and that’s the point of the device! For one, I love the new user interface.
  • Michael Reyna: I love the new update. It brightens up the homepage and I actually found a couple of shows to watch. There are too many babies who complain about anything.
  • AS: Advertisers will always try to impose their services on the general population. You are all still trying to convince people that sponsored content is not advertising.
  • Steve Wright: Or you can install a network-wide ad blocker.
  • TheNightmareIsReal: May be angry on Google all day, but Nvidia built them in. I think it’s optional for them and they did it anyway. At least I remember it was like that.

That’s it for this poll. Thank you for your votes and comments. If you have any other thoughts about ads on the Nvidia Shield TV or the results of this survey, please leave a comment below.
