You won’t have a choice of processors with Samsung’s new foldable phones

TL; DR
- Samsung equips the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 with the same Snapdragon 888 chip.
- As with previous foldables, there won’t be an Exynos option.
- The 888 Plus may not have done much with these devices.
The news isn’t surprising if the company’s previous folding objects were just Snapdragon. However, this will help clear the question if you are unsure whether you are getting the same processor in your Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Flip 3 as everyone else. It might also prove to be comforting – people have been complaining about the lower performance on Exynos-based Samsung phones.

Unlike last year, however, these are not souped-up parts. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 use the same Snapdragon 888 base processor as the Galaxy S21 family, not the recently introduced 888 Plus. At least you probably won’t object to the older chip. The only real improvements to the 888 Plus are a slight clock jump and AI processing.
We wouldn’t expect this stance on processor choice to carry over to the Galaxy S22 or any other Samsung phone in the future. However, it simplifies your shopping decisions and ensures a consistent experience no matter where you currently live.
