The arrival of the Google Pixel 5a may have been jaded by the early reveal of the Google Pixel 6 series. The mid-range cell phone offers many improvements over its predecessor. But while it seems like a balanced perspective on paper, is the Pixel 5a hot?

We submitted this to our readers in a recent survey. Here are the results.

Google Pixel 5a: Hot or Not?

Results

Over 1,300 votes were cast in this poll. The majority of our readers believe that the Pixel 5a is actually “hot”. Almost 61% of the readers made this choice. However, not everyone feels that way. 39.1% of readers feel different.

For those focused on the negatives, the Pixel 5a still uses a 60Hz display, which lags behind phones in its price range. You also don’t get a chipset upgrade, RAM / memory upgrade, or main camera sensor improvements. When you own a Pixel 4a, there are essentially not many reasons to upgrade.

But what do the readers have to say?

Your comments

  • andres_1: Probably would have been a unanimous “hot” result if Google had added at least a 90 Hz screen.
  • naduh: Imo the Pixel 5a is just another disappointing Google phone. However, if you’re in the market for a pure Android experience without breaking the bank or upgrading from a Pixel 1 or 2, then get it.
  • St. John of Des Moines: Odds are better than 90% I’ll still go for the 6 Pro this fall… ..but I have to admit, I’m so impressed with the 5a as a budget option that it’s a very slim option There’s a chance I’ll save myself some money and just do it instead.
  • Farhan Ahmad Tajuddin: Definitely hot for me. It’s time we got a Pixel smartphone with a headphone jack and IP rating. I don’t care about the unchanged chipset, it’s still fast in 2021. Even the 60 Hz screen doesn’t bother me at all as I never go above 60 Hz except when playing mobile games.
  • Varusal: I think it depends on the point of view. If you’re looking for a cheaper phone, it’s not bad (software support especially). But if you already have a Pixel 4a / 5G, the 5a is a bit of a let down. Maybe the Pixel 6a (cross your fingers) offers a little more for the same price.
  • Jury_rigger: No 90Hz, no sale.

That’s it for this poll. Thanks for voting and commenting. Do you have any thoughts about the Pixel 5a or the results of this survey? Make sure to put them down below.
