You think the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is on fire
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra reportedly made its unofficial debut in a massive YouTube leak last week. The clip showed off the phone’s key design features, including a tiny display on the back, a huge camera array on the back, and IP68 water resistance. It seems that Xiaomi is finally taking this ultra day to heart. But what do our readers think of the phone?
In a recent survey, we asked you whether you think the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is hot or not. This is your conclusion.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra: hot or not?
Results
If you were hoping for a controversial outcome, we regret to disappoint you. With around 79% of the votes, more than 1,000 readers consider the upcoming Ultra model of the Mi 11 series to be “hot”.
That is completely understandable. On paper it appears that Xiaomi is taking a sheet of Samsung’s book and throwing everything and the kitchen sink into its upcoming UItra model. It will reportedly have a Snapdragon 888 chipset and a 50-megapixel main camera with two 48-megapixel tertiary cameras for zoom and wide-angle shots. It would also be the first Xiaomi device to have an official waterproof badge. That rear display should be a boon for selfie-shooters and compulsive notification scouts.
But ultra phones aren’t for everyone – around one in five voters (21%) don’t like the Mi 11 Ultra.
For some, it may not be aesthetically pleasing. The phone is not what we would call classically beautiful. The Mi 11 Ultra looks a bit brutal with a 6.67-inch display and a chunky body. And given the spec sheet, it’s likely that the Ultra comes at a similarly brutal price point too. Users may complain about the lack of a secondary zoom camera on the back or better placement of the selfie camera in the front.
Here’s what you had to say
- Bart: The thickness of the camera bumps is on a new level.
- Anthorama: A whole second screen for two selfies per month. I think these “ultra” phones are full of experimental ideas that don’t really meet a need.
- Wongwatt: So a stupid extra screen rather than two zoom lenses? Pointless.
- Demongornot: What is this obsession with water resistance?
We are not mermaids. Is there a known problem with Xiaomi phones and water? I’ve never heard of it, the IP rating is not a necessity, it just adds to the cost of nothing more than “certification” that a phone only has some chance of surviving the same conditions of a laboratory test, and only if it’s still new.
That’s it for this Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra survey. Thanks to those who voted and commented. If you have any other thoughts about the phone or the results, please leave a comment below.
