You think the Sharp Aquos R6 is blazing hot

Sharp is not a top player when it comes to the global smartphone market as it largely confines its merchandise to its native Japan. Even so, the company’s Aquos R-series flagships were generally pretty interesting proposals.

The manufacturer has just launched its flagship Aquos R6 and it appears to be one of the most interesting flagships of 2021. The main feature is the solitary 20-megapixel one-inch rear-view camera with the Leica logo, with this sensor size being a first for a traditional smartphone form factor. What do readers think of this device? We asked you this question on May 17th and here is how you voted.

Sharp Aquos R6: hot or not?

Results

At the time of writing, over 3,700 votes were counted and this could be one of the more biased results we’ve seen in our “hot or not” polls. Almost 91% of those surveyed Android Authority Readers found that the Sharp Aquos R6 was indeed hot, getting just over 3,400 votes.

We can totally understand why readers would like this phone given the 1 inch rear camera mentioned above. However, Sharp’s flagship is also packed with several other impressive features, such as a Snapdragon 888 SoC, a 240 Hz IGZO OLED screen, a 5,000 mAh battery, and a 3.5 mm port. These additions are certainly a must-have for power users and enthusiasts alike.

However, around 9% of those surveyed did not like the Sharp Aquos R6. At least one reader complained about the lack of OIS on the rear camera, but other comments didn’t seem to suggest a prominent reason for the aversion to the device. However, we can think of some possible drawbacks such as: B. no wireless charging, no secondary rear view cameras, and lack of international launch information (Sharp’s track record suggests a release only in Japan).

Remarks

  • MM_Rafez: I just wish it had OIS! I think it’s a compromise to put this large sensor in without a massive camera bump. Now we have to see whether the compromise is really worth it. A 1 “sensor without OIS or 1 / 1.2” with OIS?
  • sachouba: It’s great to see that Sharp is still in the smartphone market. They have always had visionary ideas for their phones, offering new perspectives on smartphone innovation and the direction they could be headed, like with their Corner R rimless smartphone in 2016. It’s fantastic at a time when ” Smartphone innovations “have new ideas. According to most manufacturers, that rhymes with ridiculous ever-faster loading and 18GB of storage.
  • Lenardo Thomas: I can only say that the smartphone market will look good in the years to come.
  • Yamateh Shino: Pixel just left the group
  • EasyCare: What does the camera kick from the side look like? The back honestly doesn’t look bad given the large sensor size … better than the Mi 11 Ultra in my opinion.
