You prefer Google Chrome over Samsung Internet

Google Chrome isn’t the only great mobile web browser out there as it has a few challengers. One of the biggest challengers is Samsung Internet which comes with Samsung phones.

The Samsung app goes against the trend of manufacturer-supported browsers by actually doing pretty good. In between features like ad blocking, anti-tracking, and redirect alerts, Samsung Internet has many welcome additions. Except for things like the toolbar, customization, and dark mode.

Our own Mitja Rutnik recently praised Samsung Internet in an article, but also asked Android Authority readers if they would prefer the Samsung or Google Chrome browser. Here’s what you told us:

Results

We first asked this question on January 24, 2021 on our website and then published it on YouTube and Twitter. Over 38,100 people voted on all three platforms. The overall results show that almost 70% of users prefer Chrome to Samsung Internet.

It is understandable that people would go for this choice as more people are likely to have experience using Chrome on mobile devices than Samsung Internet. So it could be that some users are voting for what they know instead of trying out what Samsung has to offer first. Some users also pointed to Chrome features like cross-platform syncing as a reason for choosing the Google browser.

In the meantime, 31.9% of all votes went to Samsung Internet as the browser of choice. In fact, these respondents seem to be the loudest when it comes to leaving comments. Users pointed out factors like smooth performance, dark mode, Dex integration, ad blocking and a focus on one-handed use.

We found that the YouTube and Twitter polls were largely in favor of Google, while the website poll was in favor of Samsung. We suspect the headline and style of the post wooed many Samsung internet fans. Even so, it’s hard to deny that the browser has a lot of nice features.

Remarks

Robin S: Chrome sync is just too important to miss. Because of this, I would never use the Samsung browser again. Having all passwords and tabs + bookmarks in sync and on-file is a basic requirement for me. I need around 300 different passwords and I don’t want to use a third party tool that costs something for this purpose.
Diwa Galvez: I’ve tried Chrome, Edge, Opera, Vivaldi, UC, Samsung Internet, Firefox, and Brave. I still use Samsung Internet for both my tablet and my phone.
Shaunak: I’m 100% on board. Aside from a few sights that are intentionally blocking its use, I had a much better experience on the Samsung internet. Dark mode is a killer feature!
Snigdhaman Chatterjee: I used both and I prefer Samsung Internet. It’s extremely one-handed, has ad block extensions, uses less battery, and is fast! You can even lock secret tabs using biometrics. Just like Chrome, it’s based on chrome.
missmotta: I love the Samsung browser for all of the reasons you stated. It just works. And dark mode! Alleluia! I keep Chrome for certain websites that don’t work well with Samsung, like when I’m trying to exchange financial information, but it’s definitely been my daily driver for years. Hope more people try as it is available on the Play Store for every Android device.

darjen: Samsung Internet also works much better with Dex, where Chromium crashes more often. I like Opera better too, with its adblock and built-in VPN. It might seem like a small thing, but Chrome has no way of opening new foreground tabs. I hate having to scroll all the way up to switch to the new tab. There’s also Opera setting to always use desktop versions of websites, which is very helpful in Dex.
Bojan Tomic: You don’t have to change your mind. Chrome is simply superior.
Nicolas Nolte: The Chrome browser includes the “Send to my other devices” function, which is a killer function for me as I use a Chromebook as my daily driver in the notebook department. Even though I loved Samsung internet.
ANTHONYinCALI: For what I do on the internet, chrome is the way to go. IDC where the toolbar is located or really about one of these additional functions in the article. All I care about are the curated articles, the password synchronization between devices and the dark mode. Samsung Internet’s dark mode is amazing and I really wish Chrome had such a dark mode, but it’s not enough to get me to toggle.
jdrch: Firefox Nightly on Android is even better. Microsoft Edge too. At least with these 2 you can sync with a desktop browser. There is no such thing with Samsung Internet.
