You can’t decide if the S22 Ultra should replace the Note

Judging by early leaked renders, Samsung could be in the process of merging key features of its long-running Galaxy Note series with the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The latter now shows design features we’d normally find on a Note, including flat top and bottom edges and a dedicated S Pen slot.

While readers admitted in a survey we conducted earlier this month that the new design is growing on them, do they think the Galaxy S22 Ultra would be enough to replace the Note 22? We asked that question here and the results are there!

Will the Galaxy S22 Ultra be enough to replace the Note 22?

Results

This poll has garnered just over 1,600 votes since it was released on September 30, and the results are remarkably close.

With 42.4% of the vote, most of the respondents believe that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will adequately replace the Galaxy Note 22. Not far behind, 35.9% disagree, while only 21.7% of readers were skeptical.

Those who vote “no” are likely to believe that Samsung should keep its two flagship smartphone lines separate. However, as chipset scarcity hits OEMs hard, it may not be possible. Now that key Note features like S Pen support are part of the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Note is no longer a one-of-a-kind offering. However, readers don’t seem to care what Samsung calls its next flagship phone, provided it has these core features and capabilities from Note.

Your comments

  • Tennis freak: Samsung can call its cell phones whatever they want. But if the phone has a slot for a pen and it comes with a pen. IT IS A NOTE
  • DBS: For years, the Note was nothing more than the Plus / Ultra with S-Pen. So it makes sense to merge the 2. Either way, unless Samsung makes a 180-degree turn in its current route to feature removal, the Galaxy S line isn’t going to save anything from the pit it sunk into. The S20 and S21 were huge flops and the S22 doesn’t fix any of the issues that led to the flop (oversized screens across the board, no headphone jack, no expandable storage). So it’s going to be a flop too. Whether Samsung fanboys like it or not.
  • ac: The line for the Note line was never about what you called it. The S Pen has always been about form and functionality. Samsung can call it anything, as long as it includes an S-Pen and has all of the features Note owners would normally expect, including a microSD slot. Real Note fans will buy it as long as they get the same cash for their buck as they got on previous Note lines.
  • Techngro: You have just rolled over most of the Note line’s functions to your other high-end devices. No big deal. But for what it was, the original Note was a game changer in the smartphone industry. As much as the first iPhone.

That’s it for this poll. Thank you for your votes and comments. If you have any other thoughts on Samsung’s smartphone lineup or the results of this survey, please leave a comment below.
