When will the film be released in the US and Canada?
Wonder Woman 1984 will be released in the US and Canada on December 25, 2020.
In the United States, the film will be released in every open theater. However, with a lot of theater locations closed due to the coronavirus threat, the Warner Bros studio has decided to also release the film through the new streaming video subscription service HBO Max at no additional cost. That means anyone in the US can watch Wonder Woman 1984 on their smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop PC, or smart TV for the price of $ 14.99 per month. The film will be available on service for a month and then removed for at least a few months.
The film will also be released in open cinemas in Canada. Since HBO Max is currently only available in the US, Warner Bros has decided to release the film as a 48-hour rental in various digital film stores at a price of $ 29.99.
When and how will Wonder Woman be released internationally in 1984?
Since HBO Max is not yet available outside of the US, the film will only be released in theaters outside of North America. The (kind of) good news is that these countries will actually get the movie a little earlier on Wednesday December 16.
Is this just a one time deal for HBO Max users?
Indeed no. Warner Bros recently decided to replicate the 1984 Wonder Woman release and business model for the entire 2021 theatrical release schedule. This means that upcoming 2021 films like The Suicide Squad, The Matrix 4, Mortal Kombat and Dune will be released in open theaters in the US, but can also be streamed at home on the same day via HBO Max and will stay on for a month Service. Again, this is offered to HBO Max subscribers at no additional cost.
