Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 8 2021 packs a ‘new’ CPU in a reused design

It wasn’t long before Xiaomi confirmed its revival of the Redmi Note 8. The company introduced the Redmi Note 8 in 2021 with a new processor and a familiar design – if not all of the changes some might have expected.

The 2021 edition of the Redmi Note 8 switches from the Snapdragon 665 chip in the original model to the MediaTek Helio G85 in the Note 9. It’s more of a step sideways than a step forward, but it gives you a little newer computing power.

This is going to seem like a very popular phone otherwise, for better or for worse. The Redmi Note 8 2021 offers the same 6.3-inch 1080p display (the rumored 120 Hz panel unfortunately does not exist), 4 GB of RAM, up to 128 GB of expandable storage and a rear camera array with a 48 -Megapixel main sensor 8MP ultra-wide shooter, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. You will also find a 4,000 mAh battery with 18 W fast charge there.

So this model isn’t a thorough upgrade of the Redmi Note 8. However, you might appreciate some of the transmissions, including a 3.5mm headphone jack and a slightly smaller display than the 6.5-inch Note 9.

Xiaomi had not yet detailed the price and availability for the Note 8 2021 at the time of this writing.

The 2021 handset is sold by Xiaomi with over 25 million units sold for the original Redmi Note 8. In this light, it could be seen as a tribute to one of the most famous devices from the Redmi brand. However, it is also kicking off amid a global chip shortage triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. With this launch, Xiaomi will be able to sell a device based on older but relatively common chips (the G85 is made using an older 12 nanometer process) while reserving cutting edge parts for flagships like the Mi 11 series. Think of it as a coincidence rather than a classic reborn.
