TL; DR

  • The next foldable phone from Xiaomi could hit the market later this year.
  • A reliable leaker has revealed some of its hardware details.

The fourth quarter is expected to be an exciting time for the introduction of new foldable phones. Xiaomi is one of the brands expected to launch a new folding device during this period and the reliable Chinese Leaker Digital Chat Station has now revealed some of its details.

According to the tipster, the new Xiaomi foldable phone will have an inward-foldable design, just like the Mi Mix Fold that the company launched in China. The similarities between Xiaomi’s existing foldable phone and its upcoming model don’t end there.

According to Leaker, the new device will also be equipped with a 108 MP main camera and a 5,000 mAh battery. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the phone will use Qualcomm’s new flagship chip, which is slated to hit the market in December. Instead, it can use the existing Snapdragon 888 processor as the leaker claims the phone will hit the market before Qualcomm unveils its new SoC.

Xiaomi foldable phone: what’s new

Upgrades to the new Xiaomi foldable phone are expected to come in the form of an under-display selfie camera and faster displays. The Mi Mx Fold has an internal 60 Hz and an external 90 Hz display, but the new phone is said to increase the screen refresh rate of the internal display to 120 Hz. The outer screen can still have a refresh rate of 90 Hz.

With these specs, it increasingly looks like the new Xiaomi foldable phone will have a similar form factor to the Mi Mix Fold. A previous report indicated that Samsung is creating the main screen and CSOT creating the “Accessories” screen of the phone. This suggested that instead of a tablet-sized device, we might see a foldable clamshell.

However, Xiaomi has not yet started officially teasing the device, so we’ll just have to wait and see what it has in store.
