Xiaomi’s first foldable could get upgraded to take on Galaxy Z Fold 3

TL; DR

  • Xiaomi is apparently working on a refreshed Mix Fold device.
  • The redesigned foldable device will reportedly get a selfie camera under the display and more.

Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix Fold earlier this year, delivering a foldable phone with the same form factor as the Galaxy Fold series. The phone was pretty impressive in terms of specs, but it’s a China-only device.

Now Weibo tipster Bald Panda has revealed that Xiaomi is working on an updated Mix Fold that seems more of a refresher than a full-fledged Mix Fold 2.

More specifically, the leaker claims that the updated model will have high-refresh rate external and internal screens, 120W charge for the 5,000mAh battery, and a selfie camera under the display (presumably under the foldable display). Check out the machine-translated post below.

In comparison, the original model only offered a high refresh rate on the external screen, a charge of 67 W for the 5020 mAh battery and no selfie camera on the foldable screen. So these features would all be welcome additions, although charging at 67W is very quick to begin with.

Xiaomi wouldn’t be the first gamer to bring a selfie camera under the display to a foldable device, as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 already offers this option. However, we hope that the apparent implementation of Xiaomi under the screen is harder to see and offers better image quality.

We also hope that the Chinese brand will bring the revamped model to global markets if they actually work on it. However, reports earlier this year suggest there will be some foldable options in the fourth quarter of 2021 anyway.
