- The Xiaomi Mi 11 series will not have smartphone chargers in their boxes, the company confirmed.
- The move came after the company made Apple’s decision to do the same with its iPhone 12 series.
- Xiaomi will introduce the Mi 11 series in China today.
Xiaomi will join Apple and possibly Samsung by removing the included charger from the Mi 11 series packaging, the company officially confirmed.
After Xiaomi made a fuss about the inclusion of the Power Brick in the Mi 10T Pro in October, it has now gone to Weibo to clarify its stance before the launch of its next flagship and to celebrate its “light and thin” packaging as a result .
The company cites the local area as the main reason for the move, adding that “everyone has a lot of chargers,” according to a machine-translated version of the post. “We are aware that this decision may not be understood or even objected to, ”continues Xiaomi, according to the shaky machine translation. However, the company has indicated that a “better solution” may be in the works.

When the iPhone 12 series debuted with an empty box, Apple also claimed that environmental considerations were at the heart of its no-charger offering. However, with the iPhone maker not fully focused on improving charging technologies between product launches, it arguably makes it less bitter for its users to swallow a pill.
However, this year Xiaomi presented its 120 W charging smart with the Mi 10 Ultra, a standard that is largely made possible by the charger supplied. If Xiaomi users want to unlock the future fast charging speeds of their flagship phones, they will likely have to spend even more money on additional chargers. To that end, Xiaomi’s move doesn’t do much for the environment as a whole, but rather puts consumers in the background.
What suggests is that more and more Android manufacturers are ready to toss the charger out of the boxes of their smartphone. For much of 2020, rumors have spread that Samsung would do the same with its Galaxy S21 series. We can only hope that other Android OEMs will resist the urge in 2021.
With that said, Leaker Abhishek Yadav asserts People who buy the glass variant (presumably the standard Mi 11 finish) are asked if they want a charger at no additional cost. He further claims that consumers who choose a leather model can get the charger for free without having to ask for it.
As for the Xiaomi Mi 11 series itself, the phone family will debut in China today (December 28th). It is widely expected to be the first Snapdragon 888 sports smartphone line. So we will likely learn more about the charger situation later today.
