TL; DR

  • Xiaomi is introducing a new line of smartphones to its already long list next week.
  • Called Civi, it will bring “cutting edge imaging technology” to market.
  • It is believed that the new phone line will replace the camera-centric Mi CC series.

Xiaomi will introduce a new range of smartphones next week, nicknamed Civi.

According to a machine translation teaser posted on Weibo, Xiaomi notes that the series will feature “fashionable and varied designs and cutting-edge imaging technology.” However, there were no details or a first look at the phone in question.

So where is the Xiaomi Civi series within the company’s wide range of devices? There are rumors that the Civi series is the successor to the camera-centric Mi CC line. This would put the phone close to flagship-level camera hardware coupled with mid-range specs. According to Tipster Digital Chat Station, the series could focus on selfie imaging, which gives more credibility to the successor theory to the Mi CC series.

Xiaomi’s outgoing camera-first series

In particular, the Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro was a fascinating package on paper. It contained five rear cameras that were overwritten by a 108 MP primary sensor. A 12 MP telephoto lens for portraits, a 20 MP ultra wide angle lens, a 5 MP zoom lens, and a 2 MP macro shooter were also included. There was a 32 MP camera on the front for selfies. The Mi CC9 Pro debuted in China under $ 500. Xiaomi could follow a similar camera and price formula with the Civi line.

At least we don’t have to wait long for confirmed details. Xiaomi will unveil the Civi series in China on September 27 at 2 p.m. CST (2 p.m. ET).
