- Xiaomi Mi Smart Speaker may soon travel to Europe.
- The speaker has support for the Google Assistant and its numerous commands.
- The price should be under 60 €.
The Xiaomi Mi Smart Speaker, which was first announced in India in September, could soon find its way to Europe, according to a report from WinFuture.
The Mi Smart Speaker contains Google Assistant smarts accessible via two far-field microphones on the roof of the speaker. The top control panel also offers touch controls and an Amazon Echo-like LED ring for added RGB flair.
Internally, the Mi product contains a 12W, 2.5-inch main driver with DTS support. Support for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth 5.0. Users are also promised 360-degree sound thanks to the wired mesh design.
In our Mi Smart Speaker review, we found that it is great for playing vocals and acoustics, but struggles with bass-heavy tracks. The speaker also lacks line-out support, a must have for those looking to use it as a smart controller for larger speakers.
According to the report, the Mi Smart Speaker costs 53 € (~ $ 62) in Spain and € 60 (~ $ 70) in Portugal. That’s slightly more expensive than the Rs 3,999 (~ $ 54) Indian sticker, but still poses a threat to Google’s Nest Mini ($ 59) and Nest Audio of € 99 (~ $ 116) in the region. For those investing in Amazon’s ecosystem, the Mi Smart Speaker doesn’t advertise Alexa support, so the Echo Dot appears to remain the alternative in this price range.
Xiaomi has not yet confirmed prices and availability across the continent, but expects more information from the Chinese company shortly.
