- Xiaomi announced the Mi Mix Fold.
- It has a Galaxy Fold style form factor.
- The foldable device has a Snapdragon 888 chipset and a 5020 mAh battery.
We’ve seen plenty of rumors and leaks pointing to the imminent arrival of Xiaomi’s first commercially available foldable phone, and the company eventually demonstrated the device during a live streaming event.
The new foldable phone is called Mi Mix Fold and it has a collapsible design in the Samsung Galaxy Fold style. This means that you have an 8.01-inch OLED main screen (2,480 x 1,860, 60 Hz, HDR10 +, Dolby Vision) when unfolded and a 6.52-inch 90 Hz OLED display in smartphone Size (2,520 x 840, HDR10 +) the outside when the device is folded (complete with perforated cutout). Xiaomi also claims that the phone screen can be folded a million times.
The new foldable device from Xiaomi is equipped with a Snapdragon 888 SoC, 67 W charge and a 5,020 mAh battery (with two 2,460 mAh and 2,560 mAh batteries). The latter makes it the largest battery in a foldable phone to date.

The new phone has a 108-megapixel main camera (Samsung HM2), a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and an 8-megapixel lens. The latter is the first to use liquid lens technology in a large phone, enabling 3x telephony (and 30x digital zoom) as well as macro photography. It doesn’t seem like the Mi Mix Fold has a selfie camera on the main screen, but the hole cutout on the smartphone display delivers a 20-megapixel shooter.
This camera experience is also supported by Xiaomi’s in-house Surge C1 image signal processing chip. The Surge C1 ISP focuses on enhanced features in low light, auto focus, auto exposure, and auto white balance.
The Chinese brand also offers a PC mode that can be accessed with three fingers. It offers a desktop-style user interface and multi-window apps. It’s unclear if this feature will work with external displays as we saw in Samsung’s Dex mode.
Other features include quad stereo speakers, Gorilla Glass 5 on the back and a fingerprint scanner on the side. Oddly enough, the foldable device is equipped with MIUI on Android 10 instead of Android 11.
Xiaomi’s first foldable device will retail for 9,999 yuan (~ $ 1,521) for the 12GB / 256GB variant and 10,999 yuan (~ $ 1,674) for the 12GB / 512GB option.
Xiaomi officials previously suggested that the Mi Mix Fold was intended for the Chinese market, but we asked if the foldable would hit the world market later in 2021. We will update the article when Xiaomi returns to us.
