Xiaomi Mi A3 gets Android 11, but it’s bricking phones
- Xiaomi Mi A3 owners report bricked phones after the Android 11 update.
- It is unclear what could be causing this problem.
The Xiaomi Mi A3 is the latest Android One smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer and a pretty solid, if unspectacular device to start with. The phone started with Android Pie and is now receiving Android 11, but it seems like you should really wait before hitting the refresh button.
XDA developer discovered several complaints by Mi A3 owners on Twitter who find their phones blocked after updating to Android 11. Specifically, the phone refuses to turn on or charge after being asked to restart.
Several reddit users have also signed up to confirm that their phones have been blocked after updating to Android 11. A user finds that they cannot access the bootloader from a PC or they cannot connect to the phone.
There’s no word yet on a specific reason for bricking the Mi A3, but we would definitely warn against upgrading to Android 11 if prompted.
It’s not the first time that an Android update has seriously affected the Mi A3 as the fingerprint scanner stopped working after the first Android 10 update. I’m sure that Mi A3 users with bricked units would currently prefer a faulty fingerprint scanner.
