  • Xiaomi has announced the Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11X and Mi 11X Pro for India.
  • The Mi 11X series is visually similar, but offers different chipsets and camera hardware.
  • Prices start at Rs 29,999 for the base Xiaomi Mi 11X.

Almost a month after the Mi 11 line made its Chinese debut, Xiaomi today announced the availability of the Mi 11 Ultra and its new Mi 11X series in India. While the Mi 11 Ultra is the same product offered in other regions, the Mi 11X and Mi 11X Pro are exclusive to the Indian market.

Visually, the Mi 11X series is almost a copy of the Redmi K40 line. This includes the elongated oval rear camera assembly with a hole-hole selfie camera in front. Both Mi 11X series phones also offer flat 6.67-inch AMOLED displays with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 and refreshing at 120 Hz. It’s also foamed in Gorilla Glass 5. To supply the display with power, there is a 4,520 mAh battery with a 33 W charge. Both telephones also have protection class IP53.

While there is a lot of overlap between the Mi 11X and the Mi 11X Pro, the differences extend to the key technical specifications of the phones.

The Mi 11X Pro has a Snapdragon 888 SoC and a 108MP Samsung HM2 camera sensor as two defining features. There are also 8MP and 5MP tertiary shooters.

The Mi 11X opts for a Snapdragon 870 SoC. While not as lively as the 888, it should still give the Mi 11X slightly better performance than last year’s flagship chipsets. A 48MP Sony IMX582 camera is making headlines with the imaging hardware. It also has an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 5-megapixel telephoto snapper.

The Mi 11 Ultra probably doesn’t need an introduction. It is Xiaomi’s flagship product and the most expensive product in India. It contains a 6.81-inch 120Hz OLED screen that is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. Underneath is a Snapdragon 888 SoC, which is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery with a wired and wireless 67 W battery.

A 50MP Samsung GN2 primary camera is making headlines with the imaging hardware. It is flanked by 48MP ultra-wide and 48MP periscope cameras. A 20-megapixel selfie camera is in the front, but a 1.1-inch display is built into the camera array for taking portraits with the rear cameras. Other distinguishing features include IP68 protection, Harman Kardon tuned stereo speakers, Dolby Vision support and 10W wireless reverse charging.

Price and availability

The Xiaomi Mi 11X is available in two RAM versions with 128 GB of storage. The 6GB option costs Rs 29,999 (~ $ 400) while the 8GB option costs Rs 31,999 (~ $ 426). General sales begin April 27th.

The 8GB / 128GB Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro costs Rs 39,999 (~ USD 533) while the 8GB / 256GB option costs Rs 41,999 (~ USD 560). Pre-orders will start on April 24th.

Xiaomi undercuts companies like the Samsung Galaxy S21 and the OnePlus 9R in India. But the Mi 11X series isn’t really the flagship of the product line.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra debuted in China starting at 5,999 yuan (~ 924 US dollars) for the 8 GB RAM / 256 GB memory variant. But India gets the 12GB / 256GB version starting at Rs. 69,999 (~ $ 933 USD). This means that it is broadly on par with the Chinese price but is much cheaper than the European value of 1,200 euros. However, the Ultra is still Xiaomi’s most expensive smartphone in the country. It arrives in Cosmic White and Cosmic Black ends.
