Xiaomi could be working on a foldable with a 108MP camera

New code discovered by XDA developer and one of its community members suggests that Xiaomi may be working on a new foldable device. Browse the latest MIUI 12 Chinese Beta, XDA References were found to a device code-named “Cetus” as well as some evidence that it is foldable. For example, there is a snippet of code reportedly related to how MIUI tracks the folded state of the device. XDA I couldn’t find out much more about the device, but there were indications that the Cetus will have a Snapdragon processor and a 108 megapixel primary camera like the Mi Note 10.

As for the code name, Cetus is the Latin form of the term the ancient Greeks used to describe sea monsters in their mythology. The Latin term for a whale, whale, is derived from the word. If you’re looking to read way too much into code names, the suggestion here might be that we look at a large device.
View the analyst Ross Young tweeted that China Star will start making screens for an 8-inch Fordable at the end of the year, with Xiaomi releasing the device sometime next spring. However, we wouldn’t be too excited about the prospect of a foldable Xiaomi just yet. As XDA points out that the company has spiced up foldable concepts in the past but has not yet released anything to consumers in that regard.
