TL; DR
- It is said that Xiaomi is designing a new Mi Band with a 360-degree flexible display.
- It could be called the Mi Band X.
- The wearable can also have a magnetic buckle.
In the wild rumor world, a new one has just come into play about Xiaomi’s plans for the Mi Band. A leak claiming to show a slide from an official company presentation suggests that Xiaomi may plan to change the Mi Band form factor that we have come to know over the years.
The alleged photo of the Xiaomi slide, first shared on Weibo, shows that the company may be developing a Mi Band with a flexible 360-degree display. Xiaomi apparently calls the device the Mi Band X. However, that could only be an internal code name and / or a name for a possible prototype.
The other differentiating change promised in the presentation is a strapless design. The so-called Mi Band X would have a magnetic buckle and the entire device would be “extremely light and thin”. You can see the leaked slide and a translation of their text in the tweet embedded below.

While there’s no confirmation that this slide actually came from an official Xiaomi presentation or that the supposed Mi Band X is in the works, it would be the biggest redesign for the wearable if it ever comes to that. It won’t be that incredible either, as we’ve seen devices like the Nubia Alpha that, while super chunky, had a flexible display that would wrap around the wrist.

Meanwhile, Huami, the company that makes all of the Mi Bands, already has a wearable called the Amazfit X with a curved OLED screen. It doesn’t have a magnetic clasp, but it has a display that can be flexed 92 degrees around the wrist. It is possible that Xiaomi could use something similar for its redesigned Mi Band. It’s also very likely that this is just a concept the company is playing with. Nevertheless, a Mi Band redesign seems long overdue. Xiaomi recently increased the screen size of the fitness tracker, but the overall picture has remained the same for years.
