- Sony has unveiled its newest compact phone, the Xperia Ace II.
- It’s one of the few compact Android phones from a major brand, though it is aimed at budget-conscious buyers.
- It will be available in Japan on May 28 for approximately $ 202.
If you’re looking for a new little Android phone from a big brand, you’ve finally found it – though whether you like it or not, it’s a different story. GSMArena reports that Sony has unveiled the Xperia Ace II, a relatively compact 5.5-inch phone currently destined for Japanese network operator NTT DoCoMo.
This is less of a revival of the Xperia Compact line than it is the newest entry in the Sony budget catalog. It runs on a humble Helio P35 chipset with 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of expandable storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera (with a 2-megapixel depth sensor), and an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. As with many Sony phones, the fingerprint sensor is built into the power button and not the HD + display. However, the Ace II has a few advantages over high-end phones, including a 4,500 mAh battery and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Sony will sell the compact device on May 28th through NTT DoCoMo for JPY 22,000, or about $ 202. It is not clear if or when the Xperia Ace II will be available in other countries.
The Ace II isn’t really going to compete with the iPhone 12 mini – that’s a flagship phone in a small form factor. However, it can be a viable alternative if you find phones like the Google Pixel 4a too big or too expensive. If nothing else, this shows that Sony is still committed to compact phones on a fundamental level.
