Who wants an Android-powered music player with an e-ink screen?
Smartphones have largely replaced standalone music players as you can buy a cheap phone for under $ 100 and use it as a music player. But Hisense believes there is still a market for standalone music players, and his new Hisense touch could make you double-take.
The Hisense Touch is now available for pre-sale in China (h / t: Liliputing), and the music player also has a 5.84-inch e-ink screen for longer battery life and a more comfortable reading experience. The screen also offers 2,048 brightness levels and 36 color temperature levels.
On the audio side, you can expect two stereo speakers, Dirac Power Sound support, an ES9038 DAC and an ES9603 amp chip. Of course, the music player also has a 3.5 mm connection.
The Hisense Touch reportedly offers an unnamed 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon processor (presumably an 11nm design), 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 3,000mAh battery that charges over 18W USB-C and Android 11. The picture at the top of the page shows that the music player is not missing any rear camera configuration. There is an unnamed selfie camera on the top bezel.
Expect 1,599 yuan (~ $ 249) for the music player, which makes it more expensive than some reasonable budget phones like the Redmi Note 10 and Poco M3. On the other hand, it could be a comparison of apples and oranges at this point, since the music focus of the Hisense device, the e-ink display and the lack of cellular functions are insufficient.
This is not the first time Hisense has looked at e-ink screens as the company has long had devices with e-ink panels. Prominent examples are the Hisense A2 (with a standard screen on the front and an e-ink display on the back) and the Hisense A7 (with a 6.7-inch e-ink panel on the front). Hisense does not normally offer these devices outside of China. So don’t hold your breath for the touch to start in your forest neck.
