Today, Apple will deliver its opening speech for WWDC 2020, its annual global developer conference. The company is expected to discuss iOS 14 for the iPhone and iPad as well as new WatchOS and MacOS software for the power supply of the Apple Watch, MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Pros too. However, the biggest change may not affect the look of the Apple Macs or a new feature for the iPhone. Apple is expected to announce that the chips for its Mac computers will change. Chips from Intel are being converted to new ARM-based chips that are similar to those for the iPhone.

The move has been rumored for years, most recently in a Bloomberg report citing anonymous sources familiar with the company’s plans. This step may allow Apple to make thinner laptops with better battery life and possibly quieter fans. But the transition is likely to take a year or more, and new computers with the chips in them are unlikely to arrive immediately.

While Apple’s WWDC 2020 keynote may contain the biggest changes for the Mac computer in years, it will also be the first time that Apple has made a keynote in the Corona virus Pandemic that infected nearly 8 million people and killed more than 434,000 people worldwide.

In response to the crisis, Apple and other technology giants like Facebook and Google have canceled their personal conferences around Silicon Valley. Apple and Microsoft opted for virtual conferences and live streaming presentations instead to developers around the world.
The WWDC 2020 keynote, led by CEO Tim Cook, will take place on Monday, June 22nd, at 10 a.m. Apple will host a live stream of the event on its Apple Events page.

What can you expect from WWDC 2020?
We will almost certainly receive updates for iOS, MacOS and WatchOS. TVOS for Apple TV may also be updated. Rumors suggest a possible update for the iMac, in addition to Apple’s announcement of its plans to change the chips in its computers.
