  • WhatsApp has detailed what will happen to your account if you don’t accept the new privacy policy by May 15th.
  • The platform will not delete your account but will limit functionality if you do not meet the requirements.

Last week WhatsApp posted a blog post stating that users may have to accept the controversial privacy policy in order to continue using the service. The platform has now detailed the consequences of not accepting the changes by May 15th.

In an FAQ posted on its website, WhatsApp states that users may lose the full functionality of the platform if they do not accept the updated privacy policy.

“For a short time you can receive calls and notifications, but not read or send messages from the app,” writes WhatsApp. Speak with TechCrunchWhatsApp confirmed that the “short time” will last a few weeks.

The service also notes that its inactive user policy will apply after May 15.

However, the messaging service operated by Facebook will not delete your account if you do not accept the new policy. You can also export your chat history to Android or iPhone and download a report from your account before the deadline.

However, if you quit WhatsApp, you will not be able to undo the deletion of the account because it will “delete your message history, remove you from all WhatsApp groups, and delete your WhatsApp backups”.
