Earlier this month, we got some information on how WhatsApp’s chat migration and sync feature can work across devices. Now details have been released on how the messaging platform could further improve the functionality.
WABetaInfo – A website dedicated to finding new WhatsApp features. According to reports, users with Facebook’s own service may soon be able to transfer their chats to another phone number.
If you want to restore a backup of your WhatsApp chats, your phone must currently have the same number and operating system as your older device. While the chat migration from Android to iOS is already being tested, WhatsApp may also want to allow users to move their messages to a new phone number.
A screenshot of the WhatsApp migration tool for iOS and Android shows an option to transfer chats to a different phone number. It also shows that you cannot migrate chat history at any point. You can only start the process when you link a new Android phone to your WhatsApp account.
Along with your chats, WhatsApp also migrates media files to the alternative phone number.
The process of changing your WhatsApp phone number should begin before you start migrating your chat history.
WABetaInfo Also, it is reported that the feature is currently being developed for Android and iOS phones. It should be available through a future update.
