What’s New on Netflix and What’s Leaving in July 2021

Netflix has another long list of new additions for July, including a modern revival of a classic 1980s cartoon series, a high-profile, female-led action thriller, and plenty of other original series, recent and classic films, and specials. We’ve highlighted some of the new arrivals we’re most excited about below, where you can also read the complete list of everything coming to Netflix and leaving throughout the month.

Gunpowder Milkshake

Karen Gillan leads an all-star ensemble of action heroines in this film that appears to take plenty of cues fromAtomic Blonde and the John Wick franchise. Gillan portrays an elite assassin who decides to go against the crime syndicate that’s been her employer for most of her life, forcing her to connect with her estranged mother (Lena Headey) and a mysterious organization of female killers. Michelle Yeoh, Angela Bassett, and Carla Gugino get in on the heavily armed fun, with Paul Giamatti portraying one of the crime syndicate bosses who puts a bounty on the head of Gillan’s character. There looks to be no shortage of crazy, explosive action sequences in this Netflix film.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation

Kevin Smith serves as executive producer on this revival of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the iconic 1980s series that prompted generations of kids to scream, “I have the power!” Not only does the series give He-Man and his colorful cast of allies and enemies a more modern animation treatment, but it also boasts a ridiculously geek-friendly cast of voice actors, includingSupergirl actor Chris Wood as He-Man, Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, and Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn. They’re joined by Liam Cunningham, Diedrich Bader, Alicia Silverstone, Stephen Root, Kevin Conroy, Henry Rollins, Jason Mewes, and a long list of other familiar faces (and voices) for the series, which is set after the events of the original cartoon.
