What do you think of the OnePlus/Oppo merger now?

We had a few months to process the OnePlus and Oppo merger and all of its implications. Since the first announcement in January that the two brands would share their R&D resources, we’ve seen them grow closer and closer together. In June, OnePlus announced plans to “further integrate” with Oppo. The ambiguity of this statement led to speculation about the future of the brands, and initial reader surveys were very negative about the partnership.
Now new details illuminate the situation for OnePlus. The company’s CEO Pete Lau announced big changes for the brand through 2022. In the next year, OnePlus users will be welcoming a new unified operating system that combines elements of Oxygen OS and Oppos Color OS. While OnePlus and Oppo will continue to have separate PR identities, they’re also effectively backed by a larger, single team. Although the two brands have never been closer, Lau insists the news won’t detract from the company’s identity.
But what do you think of the merger of OnePlus and Oppo in view of the new developments? If you voted in our first poll, how did your mind change?
