Watch your front porch with the Ring Video Doorbell for $80 and get a free Echo Dot

If you like security at home, you should put a ring on it.

Now that we need parcel delivery more than ever, it’s a good time to install an outdoor surveillance camera. In addition to a live video feed, you get notifications when package deliveries, unexpected activity, and possibly even criminals are at work. (Unfortunately, porch pirates are still on the lookout.)

Here’s a particularly affordable option: For a limited time and while supplies last, Amazon has it Ring the video doorbell for $ 79.99 with a free Echo Dot Smart speaker. The doorbell alone usually costs $ 99.99. Note that the two colors available, Satin Nickel and Venetian Bronze, have inventory dates as of July 2 and July 8, respectively. You can still place your order today.

Like all good doorbells, the ring offers live video feeds, motion alarms, bidirectional voice communication and a rechargeable battery. It can also be hard-wired. If you don’t have an inner bell yet, the ringing (a $ 30 add-on) is a great accessory because you can actually hear the doorbell when you press it, instead of just relying on your phone or tablet to notify you.

Before you buy one of them, you should examine the various security and privacy issues that have arisen in recent years. Good news on this front: Thanks to the latest security features from Ring, the video doorbells are easier to recommend. I will not weigh all of this apart from saying that I have no personal concerns about using the product.

CNET has not yet reviewed this version of the ring, but you can get a good overview of it Ring video doorbell 3 plus rating. Important to note: After the 30-day trial version of the cloud storage has expired, the ring stops the video recording – the key point, so to speak – unless you pay for a subscription. That costs $ 3 a month or $ 30 a year (a pretty reasonable price, I think) or $ 10 a month ($ 100 a year) for the Protect Plus option. My two cents for the latter: skip it. It offers little added value.

Of course there is many other video doorbells to choose from, including the $ 99 RemoBell S., including free rolling 3-day cloud storage.
