It is clear that smartphone manufacturers are moving towards a completely wireless charging experience. Xiaomi recently showed off its Mi Air charging solution, followed by a similar announcement from Motorola. Now Oppo has released a 30-second clip (shown below) that shows its rollable concept phone wirelessly charging in the air.
Oppo mentioned the new wireless charging technology in a press release yesterday, which annoyed MWC Shanghai’s announcements.
The company has not offered any details, but the demo video shows the Oppo X 2021 rollable phone being juiced on a wireless charging mat. The device continues to charge when it is lifted off the mat, which indicates a type of air charging technology.
However, unlike Xiaomi’s solution, Oppo’s new charging method doesn’t seem to have a large area of coverage. Mi Air Charge enables remote charging from air to air within a radius of several meters. Oppos’s technology seems more limited to the area above a wireless charging mat.
Still, we’re waiting for Oppo to provide more details on its plans. For all you know, the technology is faster, more efficient, and ready to go, unlike Xiaomi’s offering, which won’t see the light of day anytime soon.
