Verizon finally offers a prepaid plan with 5G Ultra Wideband

  • Verizon has launched its first Prepaid Unlimited plan with 5G Ultra Wideband.
  • When you pay $ 75 a month, you get maximum 5G speeds, plus 10GB of hotspot data.
  • You can cut it down to $ 60 a month if you stay loyal.

You don’t necessarily have to choose between the flexibility of a prepaid plan and the fastest possible 5G service. Verizon (Disclaimer: This author also writes for Verizon Engadgetbut is editorially independent) has launched its first prepaid plan with 5G Ultra Wideband support.

If you have a compatible smartphone, the new Prepaid Unlimited tier now offers 5G speeds that are up to 25 times faster than LTE, according to Verizon. You also get access to the carrier’s 5G Nationwide lower band network and 10GB of mobile hotspot data at full speed. When traveling to Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands (at least if it happens again regularly) there is unlimited talk, text, and data information, though you’ll be throttled to 2G speeds if you use more than 0.5 GB per day.

Verizon’s faster prepaid 5G plan starts at $ 75 per month. However, you can cut this down to $ 60 per month the more loyal you are. Auto Pay instantly saves $ 5 on your bill. You’ll lose another $ 5 a month if you stay three months, plus $ 5 more after nine months.

You don’t get perks like Disney Plus, Apple Music, or Discovery Plus like regular postpaid plans. And of course, 5G Ultra Wideband only matters if you live in one of the 64 cities it covers and expect frequent access. If you rarely do this, you might be better off with one of Verizon’s lower-cost prepaid plans (or another provider), always using the extra speed.

However, this is a welcome move if you aren’t into the frills and still want maximum performance. While the $ 60 price tag for loyal customers isn’t trivial, it’s low enough to convert the savings into a 5G-enabled phone and ultimately save a significant amount of money.
