Ultra-broadband (UWB) is currently the latest wireless connectivity technology for smartphones. The latest flagship phones from Samsung and Apple offer this technology. It enables more accurate device tracking and more intuitive communication with other UWB devices.

We saw Apple and Samsung offer smarter tracker tiles with this technology, while Samsung announced the possibility of using your UWB-equipped phone as a key fob for your car. Meanwhile, Xiaomi demonstrated the ability to control smart home devices by simply pointing at them.

Is UWB something that you must have on your next smartphone or does it not matter? We ask this question Android Authority Readers and so you voted.

Would you like your next phone to have UWB?

Results

We posted the poll in our article on Monday May 3rd, which discussed the possibility of next-generation pixels receiving UWB. A little over 1,300 votes have been cast, and it looks like UWB technology is very popular. Almost half (46.5%) of all readers surveyed said this isn’t a must have, but it would be nice to have it on their next phone. This was the most popular option in the survey.

30% of respondents said they didn’t care about the technology and knocked out the 23.3% of readers surveyed who said it was a must-see. However, the survey clearly shows that almost 70% of respondents support the technology on their phones.

The few comments suggest that people have a few other ideas about what to see on new pixels instead of UWB, like an IR blaster or a better camera.

Remarks

  • Adam Gunderson: Keep your UWB and give me an Ir blaster
  • Joe Black: Give me a better camera, I literally don’t care about anything (as a Pixel 5 owner). Well, better battery life would have done nicely.
  • CR45H 0V3RR1D3: Keep your BS UWB, try to restore facial recognition and the technicians actually use it …

Thank you for voting in this poll. Do you think every flagship will have UWB in a year? Or will it turn out to be a niche feature that few phones have? Let us know below.
