US removes Xiaomi’s designation as a Communist Chinese Military Company – TechCrunch 2

Xiaomi, one of the best-known Chinese tech companies that was in the crosshairs of the Trump administration, has been removed from a US government blacklist listing it as a communist Chinese military company.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia cleared the Department of Defense’s designation of Xiaomi as CCMC in January, a document filed on May 25 shows.

In February, Xiaomi sued the US government over its military blacklist. In March, the DC court granted Xiaomi a interim disposal opposed the DoD designation, which would have banned all US persons from buying or owning Xiaomi’s securities, and said the decision was “arbitrary and capricious”. The verdict was passed to prevent “irreparable harm” to the Chinese phone manufacturer.

Xiaomi has this to say to get off the blacklist:

The company appreciates the trust and support of its global users, partners, employees, and shareholders. The company affirms that it is an open, transparent, publicly traded, independently operated and managed company. The company will continue to provide users with reliable consumer electronics products and services, and tirelessly develop amazing products at fair prices so that everyone in the world can enjoy a better life through innovative technology.

Xiaomi’s domestic competitor Huawei is still struggling with its inclusion on the US trade blacklist, which bans it from accessing critical US technologies and has crippled its smartphone sales worldwide.
