- Leaked details of the OnePlus 9’s rear camera array have been revealed.
- The phone is expected to have at least three rear cameras supported by two 48MP sensors.
- A third unknown sensor is also present, which may be a different macro lens.
So far, the OnePlus 9 hasn’t revealed many of its secrets. We saw alleged CAD renders that indicated the phones will be carrying at least three rear cameras. We now have a better idea of what this trio could offer.
Per a 91Mobile According to reports, the next OnePlus flagship will have a 48-megapixel primary sensor on the back that enables 12-megapixel pixel shots. There is also another 48MP sensor that puts the wide-angle camera into operation. The hardware of the third shooter is unknown, but it may be a replica of the OnePlus 8T’s monochrome sensor or the macro camera used on both of the previous OnePlus flagships. The release also contained an alleged live image of the OnePlus 9 array. See below.
For frequent selfie shooters, details of the sensor attached in the hole remain unknown. We wouldn’t be overly surprised if the OnePlus 8T’s 16MP sensor returned.
The leak suggests that OnePlus is aiming for incremental upgrades rather than a full overhaul of the camera hardware. In our OnePlus 8T review, we found that the phone’s camera performance was severely poor compared to its contemporaries. A more powerful wide-angle shooter can help correct at least one aspect of this. It remains unclear whether OnePlus will also keep the Sony IMX 586 used on the 8T or use the IMX689 of the OnePlus 8 Pro.
More details are likely to be announced soon. Rumor has it that the OnePlus 9 series will hit the market a little earlier than usual – around March 2021. So expect the leaks to be thick and quick by early next year.
