Twitter is working on a new in-app system to check users on the social media site. Jane Wong, a reverse engineer, tweeted the find on Sunday. Wong posted a screenshot indicating that the new feature, when released, will appear in the app settings under a “Personal Information” section.

In an email, Twitter did not contest Wong’s results, but had no comment other than a tweet from product manager Kayvon Beykpour, who said the social media site is working to integrate self-service identification.

When a user is “verified” or authenticated on Twitter, a small blue and white check mark is displayed next to their name. Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, said the company plans to expand the verification service in 2018. The process was temporarily stopped in 2017 after checking an account from Jason Kessler, the organizer of the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In 2016 Twitter tried to demystify the review process by opening a request process for personal accounts, brands and companies. Twitter listed requirements for each account that would like the coveted tick and a brief explanation of why the account should be checked (with links). It is not currently known how different the new in-app requirements check from the 2016 form would be. At the time of publication, Twitter’s verified account program was on hold and was not accepting new requests.
