Twitter hides Rep. Matt Gaetz tweet for glorifying violence
A tweet from Rep. Matt Gaetz was hidden by Twitter for violating its rules against the glorification of violence.

Twitter covered a tweet that Rep. Matt Gaetz sent on Monday and found that the Florida Republican had violated his guidelines on banning tweets that glorify violence. However, Twitter did not delete the tweet, but hid it and asked users to click the “Show” button to display the content of the tweet.
In a tweet released on Monday morning Gaetz wrote: “Now that we clearly see Antifa as a terrorist, can we hunt them like we do in the Middle East?”

A Twitter spokeswoman reiterated that the public interest notice related to the company’s violation was placed on the tweet Glorification of the violence policy.
“As is common with this release, engagement for the tweet will be limited,” said the spokeswoman. “People can retweet with comments, but they don’t like, reply, or retweet.”
The rare train comes after that Twitter did a similar action on one of President Donald Trump’s tweets. Placed behind a similar label to glorify violence. Trump tweeted about the protests and riots in Minneapolis, Minnesota after the Death of George Floyd during the last week in police custody. By doing disguised tweetTrump called the demonstrators “thugs” after threatening to send in the National Guard. “When the looting begins, the shootout begins,” he said in the veiled tweet he published overnight.
Twitter’s use of labels is part of its strategy to combat the spread of misinformation and other forms of harmful content after governments around the world have exerted more responsibility to contain the flow of false information. Critics of the social media company said that attaching labels to tweets censored freedom of speech.
Gaetz’s office could not be reached immediately for a comment.
