US President Donald Trump has announced that he will end the U.S. relationship with the World Health Organization based on allegations about WHO’s handling of the Corona virus Pandemic. The US will withdraw its funds from WHO, Trump said at a press conference on Friday, instead saying “to pass those funds on to others around the world and earn urgent global public health needs.”
The President’s reasons for ending the support included allegations that the WHO had worked with China to “mislead the world when the virus was first discovered”. He claimed that “China has total control over the World Health Organization”.
Trump also claimed that China had covered up the corona virus and “ignored its reporting obligations to the World Health Organization.”
The US made detailed inquiries about the reforms it wanted to see in the WHO, Trump claimed.
“Because they refused to implement the required and urgently needed reforms, we will end our relationship with the World Health Organization today.”
The WHO did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
