This smartphone mode could save you from drunk-texting your ex

- A little-known Chinese brand has patented a drunk mode for their smartphones.
- This would block certain apps and restrict certain functions.
- The mode would require a sobriety check to turn it off.
Using a smartphone while drunk isn’t necessarily the smartest decision as it can result in contacting an ex, posting an embarrassing video, and more.
We’ve seen some developers trying to tackle this situation with apps that prevent drunk texting and other drunk antics, but it looks like a little-known Chinese manufacturer is working on a drunk mode for their smartphones.
Gree Electronics filed a patent for a so-called drinking mode earlier this month. MyDrivers reported, the patent has been filed with China’s National Patent Office. According to the patent and news agency, drunk mode prevents certain “frequently used apps” from running to avoid embarrassing situations.
According to the machine translation of the article, the drunken mode works as follows:
- Set the rules of drunkenness, such as: B. which apps are blocked or restricted. You will also need to set up “sober verification rules” which will be used to turn off drunkenness mode.
- The user then activates the mode on his phone, with selected apps being blocked or restricted accordingly.
- The user passes the “sober check” according to the rules previously set and the mode is disabled.
MyDrivers adds that drunk mode also simplifies interactions, presumably by enabling something similar to the simple / simple mode UI seen on phones from Huawei, Samsung. and Xiaomi.
Of course, Gree is an obscure Chinese brand that isn’t even popular in its home market. So we wouldn’t expect that particular drunkenness mode to be available on a smartphone near you. But we’d definitely love to see other manufacturers try their hand at this mode, block your ex’s number or WhatsApp contact, or display your contact information on the lock screen in case you lose your device.
