This Black Lives Matter street mural can be seen from space

The new Black lives count The yellow-lettered mural in Washington, DC is for blocks from the air and is now seen from space. Imaging company Planet Labs released a satellite image of the mural on Twitter on Friday, and the next day Maxar Technologies released its satellite images of the mural and demonstrators on the streets.

The bold yellow letters that spell Black Lives Matter occupy two blocks of 16th Street that lead to the White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. to lead. The 16 yellow letters fill the width of the two-lane street.

Planet Labs’ picture shows the new mural along with some puffy clouds. The picture from Maxar Technologies shows the lettering as well as people walking down 16th Street NW. Many gather on and near the new mural.

Apple has updated his satellite images in Apple Maps to show the huge yellow letters that also spell Black Lives Matter.

The Mayor of Washington, Muriel Bowser, commissioned the mural and repeatedly tweeted about its meaning. “It took a long time, but I know. I know – change will come,” Mayor Bowser tweeted on Friday.

Bowser also officially renamed this section of 16th Street Black Lives Matter Plaza. The new street sign was installed this week.

Protests continue in the United States (and around the world) after George Floyd’s death in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25. Tens of thousands of Americans have gathered across the country to condemn racial discrimination and senseless police violence.
