The Redmi K50 series is coming, but what could it offer?
TL; DR
- A Redmi manager has all but confirmed that the Redmi K50 series is coming.
- One tipster suggests that the new phones will offer improved fast charging, video / picture and screen quality.
Redmi launched the Redmi K40 series earlier this year, making it one of the most affordable flagship phone families of the year. The Xiaomi sub-brand doesn’t stop there either, because it looks like the company is already working on a successor series.
Lu Weibing, General Manager of Redmi, went to Weibo to ask users what features they want in “future K50 products”. See the machine-translated screenshot below.
Frequent Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station has also dropped some obvious nuggets of information about the Redmi K50 series. More specifically, they suggest that the new phones have improvements in fast charging, video / picture, and screen quality. See the machine translated image below to see the actual post.
Fast charging in particular would be a sensible area of improvement, as the Redmi K40 series reaches the top with 33 W charging power for the 4,520 mAh batteries. That’s a pretty respectable number that charges the battery in just over 50 minutes, but we’ve seen competitors offering 50W or 65W charging as well. So we’d appreciate an upgrade here if battery degradation is kept in check.
There’s no word on when the K50 series will be revealed, but the timing of the Redmi executive suggests the phones will be launched later this year (possibly within the next few months) rather than 2022.
The Redmi K40 series was generally limited to China, although the base model found its way to Europe and other locations as the Poco F3. The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition is also expected to be launched outside of China as the Poco F3 GT. So it stands to reason that at least one of the Redmi K50 series phones could end up outside of China, possibly as a renamed device.
