TL; DR
- OnePlus has announced that it will “further integrate” with Oppo.
- However, the company says it will continue to operate independently from Oppo.
- OnePlus insists that the move provides more resources and clues to faster, more stable updates.
OnePlus has teamed up with sister company Oppo recently, with the brands confirming earlier this year that they are essentially pooling their R&D efforts. OnePlus has now announced that it will continue to integrate with its stable companion.
The company announced the decision on the OnePlus community forum, with co-founder Pete Lau acknowledging previous efforts to merge multiple OnePlus and Oppo teams.
“After seeing the positive effects of these changes, we decided to further integrate our company into Oppo,” said the OnePlus manager. What does this mean for OnePlus?
“This deeper integration with Oppo will give us more resources to develop even better products for you. It will also allow us to be more efficient, for example providing faster and more stable software updates for OnePlus users, ”explained Lau. He added that OnePlus will continue to operate independently.
Does this mean that OnePlus is essentially a sub-brand of Oppo (albeit with autonomy)? Should global users expect ColorOS on new OnePlus phones (as seen on Chinese OnePlus devices)? What does the integration actually include? We asked OnePlus these questions and will update the story when / if we get a response.
