1. Can the Surface Duo be saved?
If you don’t know anything about Android phones / tablets but want to try to easily root and install Clockworkmod Recovery, you will be happy to know that there is a program called HTC MyTouch 4G Slide AIO Toolkit that is made by hasoon2000 of the XDA developer forum. With this tool, you can do the following:
The Microsoft Surface Duo has finally released the right reviews and it seems that the delays between the first practical and final reviews were due to … bugs? Maybe?
The amazing thing about the reviews is how flawed it is:
- All of the reviewers pointed out important issues with many low-scoring reviews. 2.5 / 5 from my colleagues at Android Authority, 6/10 from The Verge, 71 from Engadget.
- In my private life I also heard much less nice details about the software.
- The Verge: “Microsoft is charging a starting price of $ 1,399 for the Surface Duo. Given its capabilities compared to other phones, it is absolutely not worth the price. “
- Microsoft is rolling out fixes, but it’s pretty hard to see why Microsoft has pushed this from the original version of ‘Holiday 2020’ to now as the software experience isn’t great.
- The main camera isn’t great. Some reviews found the single shooter acceptable, and sometimes good, while others, including The Verge, said “The Surface Duo camera is junk,” which isn’t good enough on a $ 300 device, let alone a 1,400. Dollar device.
- But there are positive aspects! The reviews indicate that the new form factor has glimmers of hope for a new direction in the landscape, a little closer to a portable tablet / booklet used as a miniature computer.
- But many, many comments said it was not pleasant to work with the software bugs in their current form. Even a co-founder of Android said it was “pretty disappointing”.
So where
- Provided Microsoft is committed to the device, and so am I, and with generous allowances for a first generation device, it is possible that one of the largest companies in the country with enough developers to fill a small town will be able to should use the device to continuously improve software experience.
- That can mean the experience sometimes makes more sense in early 2021, smoother, faster, with fewer mistakes, and possibly in conjunction with a drop in prices.
- At the moment this is obviously not the case. And the surprise is that Microsoft is allowing the world to see it for what it is.
- Bring the Surface Duo 2 with you. But only when it’s done.
