The LG V60 successor could be on indefinite hold
- LG and its network partners have reportedly decided against field testing the upcoming Rainbow phone.
- This suggests that the upcoming LG V60 successor has been discontinued indefinitely.
LG has been in talks about the future of its mobile division for some time, and there are also discussions about a sale. The company’s future devices are also believed to be affected by the talks, as we’ve heard earlier that the rollable phone project has been put on hold.
Well, South Korea Chosun Socket (h / t: Sleepy Kuma) has reported that LG’s upcoming V60 successor, called Rainbow, has been on hold for an indefinite period. A source familiar with the matter told the point of sale that LG and carrier partners have decided not to advance field testing of the device, which is apparently due to start in late February.
It claims that LG should release the Rainbow phone in March once the field tests are over, which suggests that the actual version will also be put on hold. That original window for March release included a December 2020 report that also noted support for a Snapdragon 888 chipset and Wacom active pen for the new phone.
“The February field test plan is the schedule that LG Electronics and cellular operators have set for Rainbow to launch in March, but there’s no real movement yet.” Chosun quoted one officer as a saying (according to machine translation).
We asked LG for a response regarding the reported delay and the company refused to comment. However, it’s clear that it’s not entirely normal for LG’s mobile division.
