The Flight Attendant season 2 on HBO Max: What to expect
One of HBO Max’s first original series, The Flight Attendant, after the WarnerMedia streamer launched in May 2020, became a huge hit and welcome distraction in the early, uncertain days of COVID-19.
Best known for roles in 8 Simple Rules and The Big Bang Theory, Kaley Cuoco beamed brightly when the star of this sleeper was dragged into a dark world of murder and espionage via a flight attendant after an overseas tamer. Cuoco grabbed well-deserved Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her inspired performance.
The Flight Attendant was equal parts Alfred Hitchcock and workplace comedy a stellar 2020.
The first season of The Flight Attendant premiered on November 26, 2020 on HBO Max. It was the number one series on HBO Max during its run. The show was also a huge hit with critics and garnered multiple nominations.

What happened in season 1 of The Flight Attendant?
Season 1 of The Flight Attendant follows Cassie Bowden, the flight attendant who is quickly drawn into a deadly conspiracy involving one of the travelers on her flight to Bangkok.
Cassie wakes up after a characteristically drunk one-night stand with the handsome, fabulously wealthy Alex Sokolov. But there is a problem. Her bed mate is dead, apparently murdered, while she slept next to him.
The Flight Attendant is a dark, hilarious and entertaining reissue of Hitchcock classics like The 39 Steps and North By Northwest.
Fearful of taking the blame (or that she might have done it before she passed out drunk), Cassie returns to New York, where she meets FBI agents, assassins, suspicious friends, rich people who look bad behavior, a thorny family history and Alex’s mind juggles.
Cassie must fight for her life and find out what happened in Bangkok on this dark, hilarious and hilarious modern day show of Hitchcock classics like The 39 Steps and North By Northwest.
When is the second season of The Flight Attendant coming?
HBO Max announced a second season of The Flight Attendant on December 18, 2020, just one day after the first season finale.
The new season comes as a bit of a surprise, as Season 1 was billed as a limited series. The Flight Attendant joins shows like HBO’s Big Little Lies and The Great, which received second seasons despite being released as a mini or limited series.
So far, very little is known about when production of The Flight Attendant’s second season will begin. HBO Max announced that the new season will start in the spring of 2022. A fixed premiere date has not yet been announced.
“To say I’m excited would be an understatement! The positive response to our show has exceeded all of our expectations and I am so proud of the entire team behind the success, ”said star and executive producer Cuoco. “We are committed to delivering diverse and high quality entertainment, including an exciting (and probably a little crazy) TFA Season 2!”
Is it still based on the same book?
Season 1 of The Flight Attendant is based on the novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian.
It’s safe to say that Season 2 will move away from the inspiration of the novel, as the whole thing was adapted in the first foray.
Apart from the plot differences between the book and the series, the flight attendant novel has no sequels yet. Its story is complete and is already playing on the screen.
That means the show’s writers have to come up with a new storyline. It’s still based on the novel as the characters are borrowed from Bohjalian, but anyone who has read the reading beforehand will go in just as untouched as the rest of us.
Who is involved in the second season of The Flight Attendant?
Kaley Cuoco is back as Cassie in Season 2 of The Flight Attendant. But beyond that, the show could go in almost any direction, adding new characters and maybe leaving some behind.
Depending on who was asked back and how the negotiations are going, Cassie’s friends and colleagues as well as her brother receive safe money. We may see more of Rosie Perez, Zosia Mamet, Michelle Gomez, TR Knight, and Griffin Matthews, along with other cast members from the first season.
And maybe Cassie isn’t quite finished with her visions of Alex, who was played by Michiel Huisman in season 1.
Behind the camera, the first season was produced by Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions and Yes, Norman Productions. Executive producers were Greg Berlanti, Kaley Cuoco, Steve Yockey and Sarah Schechter. Suzanne McCormack co-executive produces.
What can we expect from Season 2?
HBO Max hasn’t shared much information about The Flight Attendant’s second season yet. Nevertheless, we can compile a few details from the information available to us.
“Season 2 will feature Cassie in a new adventure,” HBO said Max in a statement shortly after the announcement of the second season. But the streamer was pretty mute about all other details.
Cuoco has advised Deadline that Season 2 will likely focus on Cassie’s “sober journey” after the alcoholic first season. “I think she will learn very quickly that this is a lifelong struggle and it will go over her head.”
“The CIA is definitely interested in her,” she added. That means the espionage and intrigue of season one should still be a big part of season two. And probably it will be Hitchcock’s influence too. Before the extension, showrunner Steve Yockey told the New York Times, “If we had a second season, it would probably be a whole new adventure, like a new Hitchcock movie that Cassie stumbles into.”
That’s all we know about The Flight Attendant season two, which hits HBO Max in the spring of 2022. We’ll definitely keep you updated as soon as we learn more.
