The Boring Company completes Las Vegas tunnels ahead of 2021 opening
With all of that Corona virus cancellations and postponements, how about a project that is still on schedule for a change? The Boring company, Elon Musk’s company dedicated to tunnel construction and the development of a new type of transportation, has reportedly completed its Las Vegas tunnels.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority confirmed that both tunnels to complete the loop were completed on Thursday. The boring company ended the first tunnel last February and started work on the last tunnel shortly thereafter. After completing the loop, passengers are transferred between different parts of the Las Vegas Convention Center to an expanded west hall. The campus spans 200 hectares, so the agency looked for an efficient way to get guests around and spent over $ 50 million on Musk’s company to make the loop a reality.
The work will now be aligned to three above-ground stations so that the drivers can enter the loop. There are two stations at either end of the convention center, and a third in the middle of the loop. Overall, according to LVCVA, the project is 80% complete.
The vehicles in the tunnel are based on a Tesla Model 3 or Model X. and carry passengers 40 feet underground at speeds of up to 155 miles per hour. A modified model 3 forms the basis for a larger shuttle also. Walking takes about 15 minutes, but a ride on the Boring Company loop should reduce this to about two minutes.
The hope is to have the service fully functional for CES 2021, but the Coronavirus pandemic made the thought of fairs almost impossible. Should the technology fair drift later in 2021, LVCVA CEO Steve Hill said the edge It will wait for the service to open. When opened, it is completely free for conference participants.
