The best TVs under $500 that you can buy right now

This combination means that you may want to buy a new TV without spending a lot of money. The good news is that you can get a second TV or a new primary device that allows you to move your current model to another room for less than you might think.
Most of CNET’s favorite TV cost more than $ 500 because they offer excellent image quality and large sizes, but there are some exceptions. Below are TVs that we recommend for $ 499 or less, and a TV that costs $ 50 more. Most of them have good picture quality, and the more expensive are excellent. Your call.

Roku is our preferred platform for streaming apps and apps like Netflix. It is even better if it is integrated into the television. This TCL 4 series cannot beat the 6 series (see below) in terms of image quality – its 4K resolution and HDR (High Dynamic Range) compatibility don’t help improve the image or color – but it does offer a fine viewing experience for most people, especially at this price.

The Vizio V-Series has two advantages when you want to stream from your phone to the TV: Google Chromecast and Apple AirPlay, which are not available on this TCL Roku TV. The Vizio is available in a range of sizes under $ 500, but we list one of the largest here because we like large screens. Unfortunately, there are many differences in image quality between the different models (see test report for details), which is why the above-mentioned TCL is a better choice overall

This Toshiba has the integrated Fire TV system from Amazon and is therefore a direct competitor of the Roku system of the TCL. In general, we like Roku better than Fire TV thanks to superior menus and search features, but this Toshiba has a cool extra that the TCL lacks: the built-in Alexa, which is available via the remote control.

Smart TV is king in small sizes. At that price, buying a separate streamer is a significant investment for Roku – and juggling with the streamer’s remote is tedious. So if you need a TV of this size to meet your needs, this is our pick for the best 32 inch TVs.
This is a 720p resolution TV that is okay for video at this screen size. However, if you want to use your TV as a computer monitor, we recommend spending an additional $ 20 on the TV 1080p version, model 32S327 (Thanks for the comment, tjmile1).

Our preferred midrange for the money, the 55-inch version of this TCL, was recently available for less than $ 500, but has risen to $ 550 again. Even at this price, it’s a great deal, with well-implemented local full-array dimming that results in a really great picture. As if that wasn’t enough, the Roku Smart TV operating system is our absolute favorite.
