CES is always full of futuristic technology announcements, but often it is also filled with practical technology. Computer monitors are essential to many of our workflows, especially in the age of COVID-19. What were the best new monitors announced at CES 2021? Read on to find out.
Overall best: LG Ultrafine OLED Pro
The new Ultrafine OLED Pro from LG is not just your standard 4K display with 31.5 inches. Although OLED technology has become mainstream in smartphones and is increasingly being used in televisions, it is still quite rare to find this technology in computer monitors. That’s a shame, because OLEDs can turn individual pixels on and off for almost infinite contrast ratios.
According to LG, the Ultrafine OLED Pro can individually dim each of its eight million plus pixels, which should help eliminate the annoying halos that occur with many backlit monitors. The monitor covers 99% of the PCI-P3 and Adobe RGB color space, making it fantastic for anything that is color sensitive.

In addition to the visual advantages, the Ultrafine OLED Pro is equipped with I / O connections. On the back you will find a USB-C port with 90 W power supply, two DisplayPort ports, three USB-A ports, an HDMI port and a headphone jack.
LG hasn’t announced a release date or price for this display yet, but based on its specs, we can assume it will cost a ton of money.
Ultra wide: Dell Ultrasharp 40 Curved

If you are looking for an ultra-wide monitor, there are currently many options. Dell is a household name for quality monitors, however, and its new Ultrasharp 40 Curved is sure to be an eye catcher.
The Ultrasharp 40 Curved has a resolution of almost 5K and an aspect ratio of 21: 9 for a truly cinematic experience. The monitor covers 98% of the P3 color space and 100% of the sRGB color space.

For connectivity, the Ultrasharp 40 Curved Thunderbolt 3, Ethernet, four USB 10 Gbit / s ports and a USB-C port on the front of the display. You will also find two HDMI ports and a DisplayPort input. In addition, there is even a security lock if you want to anchor your monitor to your desk.
If you want to get your hands on one, you have to pay. The curved Ultrasharp 40 costs a hot $ 2,100. However, if you need space and resolution, this should be worth a look. The monitor will be available on January 28, 2021.
Games: Asus ROG Strix XG43UQ

HDMI 2.1 caused a sensation at this year’s CES for good reason. It can support up to 8K streams at 60 frames per second. More importantly for gamers, it can handle 4K 120fps – – A flagship of many new consoles this year. If you own both a PC and a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, then this year’s monitor versions should be looked out for.
Asus, widely known for its high quality gaming hardware, quickly announced a line of gaming monitors with the HDMI 2.1 specification. Most interesting, however, is the ROG Strix XG43UQ. This 43-inch monitor could really serve as a TV, but its gaming features will likely make you use it to play your favorites all the time.

The ROG Strix XG43UQ has a refresh rate of 144 Hz and a response time of 1 ms. Since it has the new feature of compressing the display stream, it should also be able to transfer that full 4KB at 144 fps. In addition, it has HDR1000 and covers 90% of the DCI-P3 color space. While you probably don’t want to do extremely color sensitive work on this monitor, it should be fantastic for gaming.
The Asus monitor has two HDMI 2.1 ports. So if you own both a PlayStation 5 and an Xbox Series X, you can use both with them. It also has a DisplayPort 1.4 connector for connecting your computer to the display.
Asus hasn’t announced a price for these monitors yet, but a release timeframe is set for Q2 2021.
Art and color works: Asus ProArt PA148CTV portable monitor

This may not be the best spec art monitor featured at CES 2021, but it certainly is one of the more interesting ones. The Asus ProArt PA148CTV is a 14 inch portable display that covers 100% of the sRGB and Rec. 709 color spaces. It’s even factory calibrated and verified by Calman to achieve an average Delta E of less than two.

This monitor is truly designed for use in portable studio environments. Because of this, it’s not 4K, it’s just 1080p. That said, it has several different stand angles for your changing use cases and it has a dedicated dial to adjust it exactly how you like it.
The ProArt PA148CTV also has a special trick up its sleeve. It can be used as a touch display with dedicated shortcut controls for creative apps like Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. While this monitor is great for showing clients work on site, it is also good for editing at home.
Asus has not yet announced pricing or availability for the ProArt PA148CTV display.
High resolution: ViewSonic VP3286-8k

More resolution means more workspace, and we could all use more of it now. Now that 8K TVs are slowly moving into the mainstream, it only makes sense to get some 8K monitors as well. That’s why ViewSonic has released its newest offering, the VP3286-8K.
The VP3286-8k is a high-resolution 32-inch monitor that ViewSonic says is perfect for photographers. It covers 99% of the Adobe RGB area and also includes a color blind mode that helps the visually impaired.
The monitor also comes with a small puck to calibrate it yourself and a backlight for easier photo editing. For connectivity, it has a Thunderbolt 3 port, DisplayPort and a USB hub.
If you want to get your hands on this bad boy you have to pay. It will be available for around $ 5,000 in the summer of 2021.
