The Aukey Car Magnetic Phone Mount is pretty much described by its name. This is a car phone holder that uses magnets to hold your handset in place while driving. Its unconventional design makes it unique as it offers advanced versatility. While it can be installed like any other windshield or dash mount bracket, owners can also keep the street clear by pulling their arm down and letting the smartphone hang under the dashboard.

Aukey’s MSRP is $ 21.99 but can often be found on Amazon for lower prices. It is priced at $ 14.99 at the time of writing this review. It is available in two color options: black and gray.

The device is attached to your car with a suction cup and an adhesive-side rubber pad. What is good?

I was surprised to find out that the Aukey Car Magnetic Phone Mount offers a way to attach the mount to your dash without obstructing your view through your windshield. This is amazing as it makes the mount safer and more legal to use (check your local laws) while also taking advantage of the large dashboard space that most of us get. This is such an ingenious solution to a very common problem. And if you don’t like this method, you can also attach it to your windshield or dashboard the traditional way.

When it comes to design, Aukey Car’s magnetic phone holder isn’t exactly discreet. Its main characteristic is that it literally stands out after all. The good news is that you and your passengers won’t be completely disgusted with the view of this car phone holder. While it’s mostly made of plastic, it’s not the cheap looking type. It’s not exactly a premium accessory, but its colors are simple, the materials don’t feel cheap, and the product works perfectly.

The joint movements are gentle and with just the right amount of resistance. The suction cup holds very tight and the lower part even rotates for more visibility. In addition, the magnetic head has a ball socket, which offers even more flexibility in terms of visibility and alignment.

Speaking of the magnet, it was strong enough to hold a Pixel 3 XL, a Pixel 4a, and a Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus for a few hours each without accidental slips or unusual movements. The former two devices also had full wallet cases on. We’ve definitely seen stronger magnets in car phone mounts, but this one isn’t overly shoddy either.

I have to say I love the convenience that this phone holder offers. Once you get magnetic there is really no way you can go back. There’s nothing quite like banging your phone on the magnetic head or just taking it off when you get in or out of your vehicle. The Aukey Car Magnetic Phone Mount does this wonderfully.

And of course we mustn’t forget the price. For under $ 15, you could do so much worse than the Aukey Car Magnetic Phone Mount. This is a lot of magnetic phone holders for the money.

What’s not so good?

I’ve never been a fan of semi-permanent attaching to my smartphones. All it means is that you have to forcibly peel them off and remove any old sticky glue residue when you are finished using them. This one comes with a protective film that helps a bit, but that’s something else to stick on your beautiful device. Depending on the material you are attaching the bracket to, you may also need to attach a pad to your dashboard. I prefer mounts that I can easily hide when I’m not in use, but that’s just me.

As mentioned in the previous section, the accessories are pretty noticeable too. It won’t hide in the interior design of your car like a vent mount, for example, would. These tend to be cute and small, but this one is definitely more “out there”.

There really isn’t much to complain about with the Aukey Car Magnetic Phone Mount. The couple of things I mentioned in the previous section make me seem pretty picky to be honest. However, this is our preferred option for those who want to use a dash / windshield mount without actually blocking your front view. The idea is seriously brilliant.
