The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is in many ways a real beast between its huge screen, powerful cameras, and storage space. But how fast is it compared to Apple’s newest mainstream phone? Not very, it seems. Gary Sims pitted the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra against the regular iPhone 12 in his realistic Speed Test G benchmark, and the results are … not nice.
Simply put, the iPhone 12 wiped out the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra across the board. Apple’s device claimed the biggest advantage in the CPU-oriented test, where it ended up in 32.5 seconds over the Samsung 38, but also won with significant margins on GPU and mixed-use tests, despite running visuals at higher resolutions (the Note was chosen on) 1080p). The iPhone 12 finished the entire speed test in 1 minute and 3 seconds, with the Note 20 taking almost 14 seconds longer.

Unlike some online benchmarks for phones, Speed Test G primarily focuses on a phone’s ability to run apps rather than load them. It’s a real test of processing performance rather than memory and storage speed. In this case, you can see how well the A14 Bionic chip and iOS hold up against a Snapdragon 865 Plus with Android.
Sims hasn’t set out why the iPhone 12 had a dominant lead over the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, but the story is likely a repeat of what you’ve seen on other speed tests. The A14 Bionic is the first series 5 nm chip where the Snapdragon 865 Plus has to be content with a less efficient 7 nm design. While CPU architecture and operating system may play a role, there is little doubt that Apple has an edge when it comes to newer technologies.
This also highlights a problem with value for money in Android phones. The Note 20 Ultra typically costs $ 1,300 and is still a premium phone for $ 1,100 after Black Friday discounts. The iPhone 12 is priced at $ 799. With the Samsung handset, you are clearly paying more than just a quick chip. However, this review suggests that Apple has the better deal again if your focus is on speed and aren’t ready to take on the feature hit associated with the OnePlus 8T.
