Tesla Powerwall update makes it smarter during a power outage
Tesla’s Powerwall Backup battery system for home use is now even smarter. In an update released on Friday, the Powerwall can now work with Tesla charging stations at home to prioritize energy needs during a power outage.
In the event of a power failure, the powerwall was activated before the update to supply the house with electricity and continue to serve juice to a Tesla charger When the car was connected. Now the Powerwall communicates with the Tesla charger and the two work together to share energy.
If there is not enough energy stored in the Powerwall to cover the basic needs of the house, such as air conditioning, the car will stop charging automatically. Even if the house shows an increase in energy needs, the Powerwall slows down the amount of juice that is sent to a Tesla before it is completely cut off.
One of the Tesla home battery devices stores 13.5 kilowatt hours of energy, which isn’t much when it comes to powering a house and charging an electric vehicle. Of course, you can buy several powerwalls to increase the energy storage. Without solar energy, these devices are charged from the power grid. Hopefully there will be enough juice before the electricity grid goes down for some owners. It is more of a helpful tool for those who have solar energy at home.
