We now live in the world of a 400-mile electric vehicle.

The Tesla Model S officially takes electric vehicles past the 400-mile mark. “As of today, all North American S Long Range Plus models have an official range of 402 miles (EPA),” Tesla confirmed on Monday.

It is even better that the increased range does not go hand in hand with a price increase. According to the configuration page of the Model S, the Long Range Plus costs $ 74,990 with no incentives available. These Fall in prices was announced in May.

The The S Long Range Plus model was last valued at 390 miles in February – a series of Tesla CEO Elon Musk openly challenged. Thanks to a number of factors such as weight reduction, improved aerodynamics and better drive unit efficiency, the Model S can now manage this additional 12 miles. The Model S Performance still has an impressive range of 348 miles.

The reduced weight was achieved “through the standardization of Tesla’s in-house seat manufacturing and lighter materials that are used in our battery packs and drive units,” the company said. At 4,883 pounds, the S Long Range Plus model is 58 pounds lighter than a comparable performance model.

Tesla’s redesigned Tempest bikes also contribute to this improvement. According to Tesla, these bikes increase range by 2% when wrapped in new tires with low rolling resistance. You can see the updated wheel design on the Tesla website.

Apart from the increased range, the technical data of the Model S Long Range Plus have not changed. According to Tesla, the EV can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph. Tesla also says the Model S is now equipped with a regenerative braking mode called Hold, which can bring the vehicle to a standstill if the driver just releases the accelerator pedal.

As always, Tesla says it will continue to improve Model S with future wireless updates. “These changes went into production earlier this year when we started manufacturing the S Long Range Plus at our Fremont, California facility,” said the company. “All Model S Long Range Plus vehicles will receive the new 402-mile rating.”
